67 Rally wheel paint?

There have been several posts about getting the "correct" argent silver color for 67 rally wheels. I'm trying to restore a set, who makes the closest to the original color? Which paint will pass judging? Thanks for any input! Take care, Shooter

I used the argent silver on my '67 Rally wheels from Long Island Corvette Supply and they passed on judging for me. I can't guarantee that it will work for your wheels though. Every Judge is different. PT

I am getting ready to paint my 67 rally's, the original color almost looks like flat dull silver.

I used the above mentioned paint and feel it came out too flat, judges also mention "too flat" on judging sheets, Maybe I sprayed it from too far away.

The Long Island Argent silver used over my sanded and cleaned original rally wheels turned out more bright than I expected. But, once the wheels were on the car (read as, vertical and not horizontal thereby reflecting more of the sunlight) the color looks great.

My car when through two Chapter meets without any mention of the shade of the silver, right Tony?

here is a PPG formula that you can give to your local dealer . I have used it and think it is very good in color.... Argent Silver DAR 8568

One Quart
DMR 433 416 units
DMR 435 420 units
DXR 495 30 units
DMR 499 160 units

Tim,
The color and gloss is correct. I have used it on 2, 67's and 1, 69. Some of these rattle cans are to flat or the color is off. You understand this has to be sprayed with a gun.

Don't forget that the inside of the rim should be black with silver overspray from the openings. You might prime in black and then spray the silver argent on the fronts.

Yes, I was thinking I had seen a post on the Camaro forum from John Hinckley that said the original was enamel.

When enamel is mixed don't they add clear thus making the color to glossey for these wheels.
