    Re: Is '68 25610 out here? 427/390 4 sp.

I'm getting quite a few requests for many of the parts/pieces from this engine.

I'd like everyone to know that I am going to continue searching for the car/owner for a bit longer.

Please feel free to make inquires and stay in touch, as sooner or later I will likely sell this stuff if first objective is not fulfilled.

    I would like to hear more on the correctness of these pieces;

    for example,

    1) is the air cleaner element original?

    2) is the wing nut on the air cleaner original?

    3) Should there be a date on the carburetor, and where is it located?

    4) Is the decal on the right hand valve cover original?

    5) Do the dates line up?

    etc., etc.

    Thanks,
    George

        George,
I applaud your efforts to unite the complete engine with the car from which it came.

I figure that many of the complete engines such as this that are found may have come from Corvettes that were totaled in an accident or othewise written off as total losses by insurance companies. The '58 fueilie engine that was in a '56 Chevy that I once owned came from a Corvette that ran into a bridge abutment.

        Good luck with your quest.

        Best regards,

Thought I'd bring this post back to the top.
Haven't had any luck finding the car this engine belongs to.
Am considering selling or parting out. Lots of nice original parts/pieces here.

George -- thanks for bringing this back up. Now I have to remember (again) to put the data in my survey. I think I forgot the first time around. As to your questions:

            1) NO, in my not so humble opinion. Based on the AC 212 CW thread it is a mid-1970s replacement.

            https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...68570&uid=9059

            2) I think so.

            3) Yes, on the base plate -- passenger side below and slightly to the rear of the carb number stamp. To the rear of the secondary main shaft. Please share it with us.

            4) I think so, and you will note how it differs from the reproductions. If you have a repro place it next to the one on the rocker cover and take one of your excellent photos and we can all see the difference. That would be an educational exercize for all of us.

            5) I will enter the data into my survey and let you know, but I expect it all falls into place. That is a really nice looking piece.

Excellent photos. Thanks for posting them. Some of us will steal them for various features -- rocker covers, PCV valve and so on. There should be dates visible on some of the spark plug wires. Look in the distributor shielding where the braid is not on the wires. The distributor to coil wire should have a date on it, depoending on condition and how it was cut from the roll.

              Carb date:
This is on the Driver's side of the carb, rear left.
I'll see if I have a reproduction valve cover sticker in order to make a comparison.

                Sweet.

I just noticed the color of the spark plug boots. Not likely these are original. S/B black or very dark gray.

                  Yes,
It seems that this engine got a "tune-up" or two before it was pulled from the Vette.

Yes, I think so -- and a paint job too. Still a sweet piece. I am looking forward to seeing how the numbers slip in to the cars around it.

How are the numbers "fitting in"?

                        Just fine George.

Sorry I got distracted with dip sticks. I am easily distracted.
