This explanation to me means that either caramel or black should be acceptable. Similar to how early cars and late cars had slight differences (like the style of 67 interior rear view mirror day/night knob, or whether a 63 had the tool storage bin below the seats or not)

This brings up an interesting point though, am I'm sure we won't resolve it here, but I'm curious as to people's opinions.

My car has the caramel colored stator. If I get called on that on the judging field because it isn't black, how am I EVER supposed to defend against something like that, given the amount of differing information out there?

First, the TIM/JG probably doesn't mention the color of the stator.
Second, there are two camps, each believing they are right and the other is wrong.
Third, the new guy (me) gets stuck in the cross fire.

      Thoughts?

I feel for you.I would accept either on the judging field.I hate "casting things in stone".Keeps the hobby intresting (and guys like me digging for info)as long as we all remain civil.

Will YOU be judging 67 small block mechanical in Iowa next May? If not, COULD YOU?! (just kidding)

I agree. I would also accept either. Lacking absolute proof one way or the other, it would be the only logical solution.
