Re: "Hi Hat" Screw?
'65-'67 Corvairs used that high-hat screw (about 16 of them) on the underbody tunnel cover below the long plastic heater duct; it was installed on my overhead Chassis Line at Willow Run. My guys also "substituted" it for the 20 released 5/16" hex head regular screws used to attach the Corvair engine shroud-to-body seal retainer strips, and line repairmen from all over the plant stole them from both of those operations between shifts. I had a constant running battle with the Material Department over shortages/running out of them, and got grievances from the engine seal retainer operators when they ran out and had to use the "regular" screws.
That was the most popular repair screw in the plant.
