    Tom,
"Try it, you might like it! It sure improves the grip."

I usually don't need grip doing this, plus I'm not sure if it is NCRS correct!!

P.S. Thanks for the tip though.

      Dale,
That is a (repo) AC 8000rpm column mounted tach that was part of the 1957 RPO 597E option. It is driven off of the distributor.
The generally accepted quantity of these 1957 equivalents of a factory race car is 43 built.
The option included FI, HD brakes and suspension, a special air duct (seen in above pictures) which provided cooler outside air to the FI unit, no radio, no heater, wider (5 1/2in wide compared to the stock 5in) wheels with small hub caps and the column mounted tach. The hole for the "normal" tach location was covered up with one of the Corvette emblems used on the front/rear of the 56-7 cars. These 43 1957 cars are now commonly referred to as "Airbox" cars (in the Corvette world, referring to an Airbox car is as immediately recognized as referring to a "Split window" car). I chose to retain the tach in the center of the dash (under the radio) which is driven off of the generator, thus, my 56 has 2 tachs. I've added virtually all of the HD parts that was factory installed on those 43 1957 Vettes, including an FI unit which was modified by Bill Thomas back in the very early 60s.
