Re: Do you see anything special about this barn car?
Recognized as the earliest RPO 684 production Corvette. The 5 1/2" wheels on that car are perfect, no rust or pitting. One of two cars rushed out of the factory to compete at the SCCA National points race at Cumberland. The car was either the number one or two in total 1957 BP SCCA points. Won Lime Rock and Montgomery.

I am not a C-1 person, I was wondering if some one can tell me what the 2 things that look like ignition switches are? One hanging over the steering column and one in the dash. I am just curious. Dale- Top

Was the dual ignition switch a back up? Looks like two igniton switch holes in the lower dash addition. What happened to that piece?

Re: Do you see anything special about this barn car?
Here are the two youngsters involved in that 1989-1990 picture. The picture was probably taken by Frank Buck who is on the left hand side. Dick Robinson is in the middle. The car has been restored and is in the background. This picture was taken at Carlisle the day before the tent collapsed during a microburst in 2007.
P.S. I had just thanked Frank for passing on purchasing the car.

Re: Do you see anything special about this barn car?
The body on the car was in very good shape. The left front fender was damaged because the ceremetalic brakes created excess heat which cooked the grease in the bearings causing the left front wheel to come off. When I started to restore the chassis the inner bearing race would turn free in the hub. A local tool and die maker made a sleeve for the hub which corrected that problem. The bottom of the brake backing plate had received some damage on the bottom where the car had skidded. I doubt if we did much repair to that. The hardtop was the one which ran Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton (end of season and car had been sold) had a later serial number (#5992) in it and the stripes were slightly wider.
