Certainly not isolated to Corvette Central. Most repros just don't cut it. Recently bought supposedly correct flattened "U" rear exhaust clamps for $15 a piece for my '73 from Paragon and they don't even fit around the pipes much less the exhaust tips. So they just say O.K. send 'em back. By the time I drive to UPS/FedEx and pay shipping, why bother? Just threw them on the repro junk pile.

Well, that's strange. It so happens that I have some of those very clamps around here (assuming you're talking about Paragon #2587K). I got these clamps for "study purposes" only as I use stainless steel clamps and pipes on my car. However, these clamps fit PERFECTLY on my 1969 exhaust tips. They also fit PERFECTLY at the clamp area on some other 2" pipes I have around here, including original GM pipes.

I love your answers my friend... nothing gets past you. Someday you're gonna have a field day judging a 63 black over black L-76 convertible from Kansas....

The market for Mustang reproduction parts is HUGE compared to Corvette. A market of that size justifies the use of better tooling for the manufacture of the reproduction parts. Thus, the parts can be of better quality. Better tooling= better parts.
I just thought the discussion of Mustang vs Corvette repops was interesting. I learned about the poor quality of Mustang repops recently when I bought a very nice 68 Mustang that was restored basically out of the Dallas Mustang catalog. During pre-purchase inspection and test drive it had mabe 1/8 of a tank, but the first time I filled the tank, it leaked ever so little bit. Tank as was virtually everything was brand new. Turns out upon disassembly, I discovered the brand new repop fuel sending/pickup unit was soldered not quite all the way around. Taiwanese made part.

I guess its such an issue that somebody made a website for Mustang Repop Parts Ratings. Is there anything similar to this website for Corvette parts?

Phil has the 68 got the sender unit that sits in the middle front of the tank. You tap it around and it seals ? My 65 has that and if you don't tighten the sender with it sitting straight it gives a incorrect gauge reading ! My mate had his stereo on in his 65 once and the bass vibrated the sender unit around until the seal was broken and 50 liters of fuel sat on the ground under his car, could of been a total right off ! I have had no problems with buying scott Drake reproduction parts ever. There not what you would call awesome but they are acceptable. Stewy
