    Repo Rubbish !!!

I have had ignition problems of late and in fixing the problem I ordered a few parts from Corvette Central ? The part I'm astonished at is the ignition chrome nut. It has pitting on the chrome already in the package !! So I emailed them nicely and explained to them this part is not acceptable and I'm not accepting it. So without hesitation they sent me another new one and it's worse than the first one they had sent me. What really pee's me off is the little bit of paper that states how good the part is made and of highest quality !! I cannot believe they put poor visual products on there shelf to sell. Who would accept this rubbish ! I just can't believe people would accept pitting on chrome as a new part. Have a look at the chrome nut at the front you can see the pitting in the chrome. Stewy

    That's garbage

Since you've started this thread I thought I'd mention that the rubber brake hoses sold on ebay by various sellers from Argentina will not be correct. They have the manufacturer's name "Correo Argentina" embossed on them. I understand that hoses in 59 were smooth though, so I will smooth them out with high grit sandpaper. So if that doesn't bother anyone, they are a steal at $29 shipped vs 60+ shipping for a set of three from the normal vendors. Amybe if other members have info on bad current repops we can post them here.

Looks like they offshore chromed over offshore crap! Very poor quality. I would send them both back for refund. I understand that that's a problem for you because where you live. By the time you go through all that it ends up costing you money. They need to payback for the returns plus shipping both ways.

I always would think that the jewelry would be of the highest quality because it's constantly seen. Obviously not, I'm going to email the CEO of Central and have a chat with him about products and how a business needs profit to exist. How can they expect myself and others to be confident in buying parts from these companies if all they sell is rubbish. I hate my business and dread being there but I always make sure the products are of the highest quality to the purchaser it's not rocket science. Stewy

The CEO of Corvette Central (Jerry) doesn't "do" e-mail. You need to call and ask for Jerry, and if not him then Scott.

I have a whole box of repro trash. It is easier to throw it in the box and cross them off the list. That list is sure gettig short. Dale

The 63-82 brake hoses are now all made in China. It does not matter what box the come in----Delco, Rabestos, Wagner, "no-name", etc., what's inside is all the same. I get the strong feeling that these things are just not made in the US anymore. If they are, I'd like to know where to get them.

The brake hoses are a bit different than originals, too. The hose is of somewhat smaller OD than originals. It's really quite noticeable, too. I'm sure this is some new sort of hi-tech material and it's likely better than the old style, but the configuration is different. The hoses are DOT-approved, so I don't really have any concerns about any safety aspect.

I have also had problems with Corvette Central and now will only use them as my last source. In particular, 1966 window winders last year I got from them had 1963 knobs on them. When I called to explain the error in manufacture, they said that was the only version they had and it was the correct version. I sent them back and did get a refund (got correct 66 winders from Ecklers). About 3 months ago I got also from CC 66 motor mounts and they were one from Korea and the other from China (would'nt you think that the order filler would send, 2 that looked the same?). I had a similar problem when I ordered recently 2 (C2 - 64 and 66) trans mounts. They again were imports, 1 from India and 1 from China, which would have been okay as they were being used on two different cars, but one was 1/4" thicker that the other. As I live in Ontario Can. it is a bigger problem to return errors to CC so I chucked them!
                What gives with Corvette Central?

all the c-1 rubber hoses were smooth skined.you can sand the ribs off of the repos but a knowlegeable judge will pick up on the washer which swivels on the distal end of the sanded repo hose. original hoses had a washer that was an integral part of the distal fitting( it couldn't swivel).mike

Just like Joe has said, I don't think that you can formally restore a Corvette or a baby stroller today, without having use parts made in China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mexio or South America. It just ain't gonna happen. All of the American industries have either gone out of business or have been forced to go out of business by either the cost of materials, the EPA , taxes or even the skill necessary to build or create a perfect copy of so many early Corvette parts. Our NCRS founding members, I doubt ever considered this kind of situation ever coming to be. Ten years ago I tried to get a 'Oil Pressure Sending unit' for my 79, and after buying and sending back all of the four I had bought I had to accept GM authorized unit in the regular Blus and white box from Chevrolet. Once opened it clarly said "Made In China" You can't get something that no longer exists ! It's very frustrating.

Yeah, me neither. I was kinda bummed they have the manufacturer's stamping all up and down them. I was thinking it may be possible to get black liquid rubber and smooth the hose over?

You know I have that same part on the shelf (ignition bezel) and it is perfect and it came from Corvette Central.

While their quality control may be in question, their comittment to the Corvette enthuasist should never be in question.

They will appreciate you calling to their attention the poor finish and I'm sure the part(s) will be replaced quickly and efficiently.

I'm sure after an inquiry to either Jerry or Scott will get the attention you need and you won't have to smear them all over this board.

Joe I really hate to smear a business but when they stuff up more than there fair share I think I would like to share this with other enthusiasts to see if it was just myself receiving very poor quality products that they hand out with notes attached saying this part is of high quality. Jerry and Scott probably work 100 hours a week each and do there best to see parts in stock. But something is wrong here and I will find out. Stewy

                              Joe,

Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes in Florida advertises "Made in USA with Goodyear rubber hose". The brochue I have says "Manufactured right here in our U.S. factory".
At least someone recognises the issues with these imports and we have an option.
