    63 seat belt tag survey

I have an early 63 car with vin.1004xx. At a recent judging meet I was shown the Judging Guide and correctly informed I had the wrong belt tags for my vin.number. Page 32 of the Guide shows two tags used for before and after vin.7000. My belts were just restored by a well respected man in New Jersey(he did a great job). I checked with him and he double checked and confirmed I have the correct tags. Mine read Model 10-51-198-1.
It only cost me a point in judging; but I am curious. I would like to know if there are some original tags out there. Do your tags read Model 771Cor-C,or Model 10-51-198-1 and is your vin. above or below 7000.
    thank you
    Bill

      Hi Bill

I know you wanted original tags, but this is my tag from January car just under VIN 7500. Belts done by same guy in New Jersey.

Did you happen to notice that the two labels are different, model number, in the picture I posted? And yes, they are the original labels.

The new JG has the information switched.

            Harry
I had to look twice and noticed a letter"C" after model on one tag. I have not seen this before.
            Tracy
I think you are correct. The JG has the information reversed(possibly during printing)

Bill, the labels disintegrated when I took them off. It wasn't till 6 months later when looking at the picture I realized there was a second C on the one label. The original labels are long gone, my loss.

Anyone else have an extra C on the label?

My 63, the LWC-9900 has red seat belts that were restored from old Mike from Snaky Oyl an eon ago. As you know poor Mike has passed on. He used my original labels on his repro red belts.
My labels are the same as Bill Coffins. So obviously the printer for poor CC switched the info.
My 63 was judged at two regionals and it go no deduct for labels on nice seat belts. If I was the judge though I woulda dinged the LWC on the belts as the color of the red isn't close to my shabby originals. But you didn't ask that.

John, I've seen two colors of red on original 63 belts. A Maroon shade for early cars and a Corral (almost pink) for later cars. The repo webbing is just Red. I've wondered when the transistion point was for the color change.

Which color did your #9900 have ?

FWIW, My July build has 771 COR-C, something like Harry's, and my S/N is a 19,4xx - probably won't help you. Mine are original stashed in my "waiting to be rehabed" box.

Off year subject but did anyone ever seen a set of original early 1964 seat belt tags that read Corvette not Chevrolet. I have two sets of originals one tag marked 63 the other 64 and these are 100% original belts and tags. I have seen in the last year or so about five of these sets.

These 1963 belts are off my November built coupe, 031XX. Notice the black out on the floor bracket.
