    Pricey by most people's standards.

That is my point. Why would someone pay almost 10% of the cost of a Corvette to get the J56 unless it was for racing? It realy seems odd to me. I woud love to talk to some one that ordered it for some other reason.

A marroon 435 roadster was at Bloomington this year and received a Bloomington Gold award. It has a real window sticker showing the J56 option. It will be in Chicago for the November 21st and 22nd Chevy show. The owner lives here in Austin, TX.

Ken -- I suspect it had to be the case of a silver-tongued salesman. One of the problems is that the '67 (and even the '66) dealer showroom brochure contained only 3 words for the J56 option 'Heavy duty brakes"; no description of the principles or the materials used. But as you say, the price should have raised their eyebrows.

Have you read the Corvette News Vol 9 #4, probably in the spring of 1966, that goes into quite a bit of detail on J56 (a complete page) as well as RPO's M22, F41 and N03 ?

I also wonder if some dealer ordered some Corvettes with a lot of options not knowing what they were. My 70 LT-1 was bought off the show room floor as a dealer order. 4:11 ,radio, The original owner that I bought it from had know idea that it was a HP Corvette. The more they loaded up the car with options the more they made. Remember the base bait &witch Corvette that was advertised as the lowest price in town. In the day as it is today the salesman didn't have a clue about cars. Most were selling TV'S at Sears the week before & the owners were not that knowledgeable about HP cars. Didn't Hertz order L-88'S because the order fourm said heave duty?
