C 2 fuel gauge problem

    C 2 fuel gauge problem

    Hi guy's my fuel gauge only works from full to 7/8 ,once the fuel goes below 7/8 thats it the gauge stay's at 7/8 and the the fuel keeps going, then once i fill up again it will then return to full, but again stop at 7/8 . anyone have any ideas what i can look for, this happened after sitting ,one day it worked then the next it didn't.....jim

    Jim -

    Although it sounds like either the sending unit float arm is stuck or the wirewound resistor has gone south, perform the diagnostic routine you'll find at the link below to isolate the problem.

      I had the same problem with my 66. I replaced the o-ring seal and then it didn't work after previously working fine. I posted the question and John Hinckley posted the same tech diagnosis options and I found out that unit had indeed gone south. I replaced it and it works great. Ran out of gas a couple of times before it was fixed, now my wife trusts it enough to go out on rides with me again. Still working on her trusting me...
