    Bob McDorman Good Guy Story

I drove down to Columbus from Akron Ohio Thursday to preview the auction and see some old friends. Just as I pulled into McDormam's the car started running rough. Long story short I had burned a plug wire at the cap. Called 3 parts stores, no cap, no single wire. Finally a gentleman overheard my situation and offered me the number of Floyd's Hot Rod Shop
in Groveport, three miles from McDorman Chevrolet. Called Bill the owner and was told if I could get to his shop he would fix me up. Took the car over, he pulled the cap, checked for cracks, cut my wire and put a new end on it, and sent me on my way and would not take a dime for his trouble. Drove from there to Sandusky Ohio and she purred like a kitten all the way. Nice to know there are still people like Bill around. So if you are ever near Columbus Ohio and need help, call Floyd's Hot Rod Shop and ask for Bill. Stop in if you are near as he has about 6 or 7 projects going on all the time. One last irony, his shop is in the original McDorman Chevrolet building.

Terry, nice story. Glad to hear there are some good guys still out there. How were the auction items? I was interested in some of them, but the mecum auction site had terrible pictures, no descriptions, etc. My buddy really wanted a set of the original kock off wheels as well as the steel 65 wheels and hub caps. I wanted a set of the original bolt ons, it looks like he had 4 sets, 2 with tires and 2 without. How were the items? Did they all sell? I live no where near there, and have a feeling a particular "dealer" would be there buying all the items......Won't mention names. Let me know as I am beyond curious as to how it went. Regards. ARA

      Ara,
The fuel injection guy from South Bend bought most of the injection stuff and other items.
A big buyer from So. California bought tons of parts.
Then there were a number of other dealers that bought many items.
In reality the number of buyers was very small but they knew what was there and got some deals but I felt the prices were high.
Figure the guys who bought the parts will price them 2 or 3 times thier cost and probably do well.
Due to the rare (I hate to use that word) nature of some of the parts the auction was worth going to.
I wanted the Halibrand wheels but they were out of my league. I think Phil Schmidt wheels will be ordered shortly.

that comes from not having the wire end seated all the way in the cap. always slide the boot back before putting the wires in the cap to make sure they go in all the way

It sounds like many of the "so called" restored signs were just reproductions. Buyer beware still rules.
