    John,

When I signed up I ordered the several books - one of them was the Juding Guide. I guess you're right - I should check to see how much they will ding me with the mods she has and go from there.

    Thanks!

I think I remember reading something about restamping and NCRS disqualifying the car if they discover the restamp - again, I got this from the internet (unsure at this point where I read it).

In our two cases - it's not a fraudulent stamp, only placing something back which belongs there in the first place; isn't this one of stated purposes of NCRS? (as it left the factory - no more, no less).

Someone with a judging manual or judging experience will be able to answer this - if not, I will let you know once my judging manual arrives. Especially in your case, the time to restamp is now if it makes sense to do it.

No problem with the thread - I'm here to learn from whoever is willing to chime in.

        John,

I'm sorry, I didn't see your reply. Do you anything about the disqualifying part? Like I said, I'm not sure where I read it - forgot to copy the source.

          Jim -

The distinction is between "restoration" and "counterfeit", which is covered on page 6 of the Corvette Judging Reference Manual (which you should have in addition to the Judging Guide). A counterfeit engine stamping is grounds for disqualification, but an engine stamping and pad surface which simply doesn't appear to be typical of factory production just gets a deduction.

Just as well you didn't copy it. The website in question typically circulates lots of bad info on the NCRS- primarily by individuals that got the incorrect info third handed themselves.

An engine that has been restamped in an effort to correctly restore the car is viewed no differently than a car that has been accurately repainted. That's restoration, not counterfeit.

              John,

That seems to clear up the issue. I just joined NCRS and ordered the books - I will be sure to read up on everything once I receive them.

              Thanks!

                James:

When I bought my 64 36 years ago, I thought that I might fix it up some day, but that was for the future. I had the car painted and fixed some bolt on things, as well as repairs, and it was a daily driver. It's gone to local shows, autocrosses, rallyes, cruise ins, as well as just being driven around, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. When the rear end started acting up, it needed to be repainted, and I developed a bad miss I knew it was time to do the frame off restoration and look seriously at NCRS judging.

Don't take this NCRS thing too seriously right now. Enjoy the car for a little bit and decide what you want to do. Be careful about the money that you put into the car and ensure that everything you do can be used in the restoration.

For right now, I'd drive it and have some fun.

                Paul

                  Paul,

                  I appreciate your post.

From what I've been told by people who looked at the car is that she doesn't need a frame up at this point and that it is in really good shape - I am going to replace the very few things she really needs and will keep in mind to buys things that will make an eventual restoration easier should I decide to do it at some time in the future.

After all, you're correct - I bought her to drive and have some fun! I actually started to drive my '86 as well as she sits most of the time and the only time I was driving her was to Carlisle once a year! The former owner of the '69 died and he was only in his mid 50's - live's too short.

Thanks Again! You've help me to think this over more clearly!
