    Re: C1 Shifter Knob

I recently bought 3 Group 4.006, Part #3747685 Shifter Balls on Corvette Forum for next to nothing They are all a bit weathered. Two look the same and one is different. The different one is much more weathered and in a slightly different box. Should the mold line around the ball run verticle on the ball when installed (and go through the hole), or horizontal around the circumference of the ball when installed? Additionally the mold line is more pronounced on the ball with the horizontal line.

The boxes for the balls with vertical lines through the hole are smaller and say "GR.4.006.E30 1.3747685" while the box for the ball with the horizontal line reads "1#3747685 GR. 4.006 KNOB". I'm reloading Roy's pic in case it ever drops off photobucket.
    See pics.

more pics of the shifter balls. Also note that the ones in the smaller box have threads that don't go all the way down - so the bottom of the hole is slightly enlarged, while the one in the larger box, the threads go all the way down...

It's not really chaulky, but definitely deteriorated and rough, like the grain of the plastic is exposed. Also lighter than the others.

I have my NOS 3747685, GR.4006 Knob in front of me. The molding line is like your description "vertical through the hole." The threads are exactly like the ones in the picture Roy posted. Hope this feedback helps.

Thanks Dennis, so yours matches two of mine, but I'm wondering which style is original? Do the experienced judges look for a vertical or horizontal line? Thanks for checking on your example!

The deteriorated one is strange Tenite is the same all the way through it. Maybe it's not Tenite ? You mention it was lighter ? Sounds like an old repo placky one. Stewy
