    Gas tank removal

Does anyone have simple directions for a tank removal in a 66? Is it difficult? I'm handy but always get scared I'll get it apart and screw up something?

Dave, I remember reading the past months in the Archives some step by steps. I did my '77 about 12 years ago and it is not that bad. As I recall I emptied the tank, put it on jack stands AND blocks, removed the tire carrier, I removed the flap around the cap, removed the wiring on top of the tank, supported the tank from below on a floor jack and stands, unbolted the straps, and brought it down to the floor easily while lying on my back.

You aren't going to mess anything up.

      Dave -

There's an illustrated step-by-step procedure in the Chassis Service Manual; if you have a coupe, the filler neck must be removed from the tank first.

        Removing it is easy.

It's the reinstallation that is a bear.

Been there, done that, at least 3 times.

What wiring on the top? On my 67 and the 64 I used to have the wiring is on the bottom at the fuel meter.
But I agree with the rest of your instructions, I just replaced the metering unit in my 67 over last winter.

Dave, replace your metering unit to fuel line hose as well. They're 43 years old too maybe.

Don, on my '77 the sending unit wiring goes over the top then down.

true, but not on a mid year and that is what the original poster was asking about.
