Re: Solid lifters
It's my understanding that the .018" gasket continued to be used for production for some time after the ...711 was released for service.
I have a set of used ...711s that came off a '70 L-46 and measure .022", but I have seen the ...711 speced at .026".
The only compression of a steel shim gasket is the upset area. The bulk material does not compress inelastically AFAIK, so a new ...711 thickness can be measured by micing an unformed area of the gasket.
I anyone has what they think is an untouched Flint-built SB from '64-up, how about if you measure the gasket thickness? Use feeler gages at the corners.
