    Bill:

    I think you're on the right track. Even though it could be your bendix and just because it's a fresh reman does'nt guarantee that it's not about to fail, I've seen these issues many times before. See photo.

      wow. how much damage did that cause? what would have caused a flywheel failure like that? did the engine get trashed? bill

        Sorry it took so long to get back.

        No damage to the motor. I heard it when my son started it in the driveway. We dropped the tranny and it fell out.

        I had given my son a used 350 starter out of the "pile" and he installed it without checking the clearance (i.e. no shims). And he's the professional mechanic. You just can't get good help these days!
