Try the CLR first - you can get it at Wal-Mart or Lowes.

If you have painted parts that may have the original finish in good shape underneath I use a gel paint remover and or laquer thinner it won't damage the finish like a wire wheel or bead blasting.
If the finish is bad you can allways use the wire wheel. Some parts will not need refinished and will be beter than restored parts as their only original once and the spray paint may have protected the finish..

Is a Wheelabrator similar to a tumbler and where do you buy it and the media for it?

I have a couple brackets in engine compartment with slight amount of rust - example the brackets for #1 body mount. I was thinking of wire wheeling it and then using rust converter. Does that sound like a good idea to you or are there other preferred methods? Steve
Steve, sorry I did not repsond before now but was out of town. Wheelabrator is a brand name and years ago was used generically like "Xerox" for copy machine. It is a tumbler, usually large for industrial use with tubs in the 55 gallon and above size. We used one at Maremont to prep, remove rust, etch, etc., metal parts such as brake shoes and metal backing plates for disc brakes. I believe their site is www.wheelabrator.com. They supply shot, etc. There are also a number of other distributors. A media blaster will probably suffice. If you just have a few pieces it is probably not worth buying a tumbler or media blaster because a good one will cost more than alternative methods, chemical, steel wool, paying to have the parts blasted or dipped, etc.

I had my original parts that were cad replated with cad to be right. I have noticed the newer judge manuals for 67 say cad or zinc, zinc is not right but I guess enough of the "chosen ones" in the ncrs decided to help their friends and include zinc, such is life some wrong things just evolve into right things

I'll side with others here who have cited their experience in replating parts...

I have not found a part on a 71 or 72 that I would state unequivocally is cad plated.
