Charles, does your top tank have the metal tag on it? That will give you the date. Not all original tanks have the original rad. under them, though.

I faced the same problem with my 57 twenty years ago. I had it re-cored and its been fine ever since. Of course at that point original cores were available, and DeWitts, I don't believe, was.

if u r interested in knowing if the core is original, measure the distance between adjacent fin tubes. one is 1/2", other is 9/16 between tubes. as I recall, originals are 1/2" apart but check the 56-7 judging manual to see if my memory is intact(the wife says it isn't ). regards, mike
