Sometimes its hard to get a response, but on my 68 L36 it's not painted, but I am no expert. Its drives just fine with or without paint.

          Brandon,

          Check your AIM.

If it is listed with a part number in the L36 section, then it's not painted as it was installed in St Louis.

If it is NOT listed, then it was installed at Tonawanda and was likely painted.

So, you can find it out with a little research.
