    Driveline Cars For Sale

I thought that the serial # had to be listed with all Corvettes for sale. A lot of the adds do not have it. Also I wish that more people would put a price on their cars. Most say no tire kickers but do not give a asking price. Are they just fishing for a sucker. Hate to waste a phone call on a pie in the sky priced Corvette. Any thoughts about requiring a asking price in the add?

That issue has come up before, for both cars and parts. As a matter of principle, I don't call on any cars or parts that don't list an asking price.

I know it has but it seems like that there are more & more that don't list a price & then add the commit that they don't want tire kickers. They have to have a price that they would like to get. maybe they forget this is not the late 80'S early 90'S when the price went up weekly

just call them and make a offer of what you are willing to pay, this is not E bay were you are trying to out bid someone so you start off with a low bid. don't even ask what he is asking as two can play the game, just tell him what you are willing to pay. if you are a serious buyer you know what the car is worth to you.

I agree. I figure the guy is not a serious seller if he not willing to put a price on his item.

I don't know about you pikers, but my land line is toll free throughout the country - one flat rate. Sometimes I just call to inquire and end up having a good long chat about Corvettes and parts - of course I'm retired and have lots of time until I have no more time. It's a great way to talk with fellow members. As for tire kicking, I go easy on those old bias plys. The're liable to pop in your face.

So, is the policy still the same in regard to posting the serial numbers?

I've asked here before, but why does that rule not seem to apply also to companies who advertise multiple cars for sale in the Driveline??

I agree that asking price should be listed and when I decide to sell my car I WILL list the price. However, why does one need to know serial # when just inquiring about the car???????

Back (in the dark ages) when that policy was set, publishing the VIN was supposed to prevent folks from advertising stolen Corvettes. If the VIN was in the add any member with access to "hot sheets" could verify that a Corvette was not listed on those sheets.

And if you think that is not a threat today, I have some beach front property in Arizona to sell you.

not only that but you could possibly check back thru and find out if that 427/435 with that vin was once advertised for sale as a small block.

So posting the VIN in a car ad is an actually policy?

If so, do we know why this policy is not enforced?

How does one access "hot sheets"? Other than law enforement officials? Is there a web site that lists them?

I never looked, but now days in the Internet age they might be on line. Goggle, or any of the other search engines will give you an answer.

Otherwise they are on law enforcement computer systems, and you would have to take a VIN to your local law enforcement agency and tell them you are considering buying this car and want to know if it has been reported stolen. If you decide to do that, let us know what the response is.

                              Kenneth,

You are correct. On page 8 of the July/August issue of the Driveline, it states in the first paragraph, fourth sentence. "Ads for cars, bodies and frames for sale or trade must include the Vehicle Identification Serial Number (VIN)."
