    69 wiper override knob

Which one do you guys think is correct for my 69, the one with the silver center or the all black one?

The knob with the silver center came with the switch and neither are from my car. The all black knob did come with the car when I bought it 20 some years ago so right now I don't know which is correct.

    Thanks

My original knob is black like the one on the left.

Okay thanks guys, I'll use the all black one on the left then.

Any idea what year the knob on the right is for? I have it narrowed down to 71 or 72.

All I can say is that the knob with the silver center was first repro'd some time in the middle or late '80's. The vendor swore that someone furnished him an original. I cannot say that I have ever seen one on an original car. I guess this is something that needs to be researched further and included in the new manual

Both 72s in my garage (Oct 71, June 72) have all-black knobs.

The VP of Interiors (Reba) said she has never seen one on an original '68-'72. They were also available from GM with the silver center sometime after '72. Probably fit another product line

Might the one with the silver center be correct for the rear window defoger knob? Just asking, since I know squat about interiors.

I've only seen black on those, and just saw one recently.

I guess I ought to look up from the engine compartment occasionally.

Spending too much time contemplating tiny brass fittings in the middle of otherwise fine rubber vacuum hoses.

Damn, you have a good memory. Must be your youth. I still think it is copper plated steel -- but that makes no sense either. Some day you young guys will figure it out.

Copper would have had green corrosion. That fitting had none.

Here is the text from the latest 1970-72 JG:

Override Controls and Odometer Reset Knob
Below the steering column are override vacuum controls for wipers, wiper door, and headlights. In the center is the wiper arm override switch, a plain round black plastic knob with grooved edges. Service replacements and reproductions have a stainless steel center. The other two controls are dull black or gray plastic pull switches.

This was the latest info we had when it was printed. I am not sure it was available when the 1968-69 JG was last done. But we are working on an update for that one.
