    Re: Brass screen

Can anyone confirm that a brass screen would've been OEM for a 70? When I bought mine it came with a torn brass screen (no idea if original), which I replaced with a new SS from GM.

Sorry. I should have read further down and saw that BG uses 5 pts deduct for a start

          Yes.

In fact, my 70 Cutlass (Sept 69 build) has one.

Where are these "guidelines?" I would very much like to see them. I suspect others might as well.

I'm referring to the printed text at the Wisconsin Regional that said something to the tune of "do not remove battery caps for inspection". I was wondering if some kind of general advice existed for other parts of the car, as this was the first I had heard that a judge can take the washer reservoir cap off the car.

Do you know who generated that printed text? This is the firat I have heard about written limitations on what a NCRS judge can look at.

Chris -- Please note that the OP asked about jufging at Bloomington Gold. Any restrictions NCRS might put on judges has no bearing on Bloomington Gold. As far as I know THAT orginazation has no limits on what a judge can look at.

Indeed. I temporarily forgot the OP was asking about BG judging. Sometimes you get carried away, right?

As for the regional though, I thought I read somewhere that judges weren't supposed to remove battery caps. I thought it was in the packet of info I received when I checked in. Maybe not, maybe I'm making it up.

                      Re: Brass screen

You would get an originality deduction for your car at NCRS Flight Judging, too. My statement is based only upon the description of the brass screen as part of the "black fluted plastic suction nozzle", as described in the NCRS 1965 JG. A/C cars will have a bag and non-A/C cars will have a plastic tank. Both will have the brass screen at the end of the black fluted plastic suction nozzle.

It is my experience that anything described in the JG for your model will be judged. For a 1965, the judges could deduct up to 4 originality points for the "reservoir, fluid, & brackets", which is in the Mechanical Section, #18.

It is also my experience that this and other tiny details will drive you crazy in the quest for a Top Flight car. -Clark

You got that right. I'm finding myself saying that things are "good enough" just to get them done. I've been working on this thing for almost 3 years and I'm getting anxious to get it done, judged and start DRIVING it........

                          Re: Brass screen

Since I didn't have a car judged ar the Wisconsin Regional, I may not have received the same information as those folks. As a judge there, I never heard those instructions from anyone -- but then a given Team Leader may have given his team instructions that did not go to ALL the teams. Of course those instructions would then apply only to his team.

I read in one of the posts here some months back that at one of the meets Roy is supposed to have said something about this issue, but I have yet to hear it from Roy himself. Not that I don't believe he might have restricted what the judges can look at, but I would expect him to put it in a Restorer column, or some other written format. Verbal communications can be misunderstood all to easily.

In any case, there are no limits to what a Bloomington Gold judge can look at within the time constraints of their judging -- but those are substantial limits.
