What does the original vent look like? Anybody have pics? I bought a 3:55 posi to install. I just pulled the axles and started unbolting the current open unit and letting it drain. Looks to be a two-man job of taking the old one out unless I can jockey it around on a floor jack without dropping on my fingers. The car is on a good set of jack stands.

John, what is the "vent" question? You've shown photos of the pumpkin/pig posi unit. Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Re: 62 posi vent
I'm sorry guys. My question was, what is the proper vent for the axle assembly? My car does not have a vent currently, but the hole is there. Iwill be putting in the above unit and wanted to have the correct vent. Thanks John for referring me to the AIM. I found it on page B192. Does the elbow sold by CC look correct? They show a plastic looking vent and the elbow. Is the vent line steel like the brake lines? Does it end just past the clip on the center housing? Is the elbow threaded into the axle housing? I hope I am a little more clear now. Can you still get the posi tag for the filler plug. I see CC has the metal tag that goes on one of the lugs.

Re: 62 posi vent
The metal tag that you mention (which goes on one of the lugs), are you referring to the small metal disc which is attached to one of the forward facing studs on the rearend center case, which is attached with a nut?
If so, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL of the Corvette and early Chevy aftermarket vendors have TWO of those tags incorrectly labeled. For many years I have tried to get the vendors to change the labels on those discs, but basically they all refuse to make a change until notified by some kind of OFFICIAL documentation which shows that the two discs are incorrectly labeled. I have also brought this to the attention of NCRS with ZERO results. Either NCRS members are not knowledgeable enough of this issue, or they could really care less.
Anyway, the two discs which are mislabeled are the ones for the 3.36 and 3.55 raitos. The disc for a 3.36 ratio SHOULD only have one hole for attachment. The disc for a 3.55 ratio SHOULD have two holes. The vendors have these two discs reversed in their catalog illustrations (and always have had).- Top

Re: 62 posi vent
I too don't understand why this is not corrected. I have an untouched 61 base car and could never understand how it got the so called "3:55" tag on it.
Only here did I discover this issue and now understand. I agree the books are wrong- Top

Bob, have been in Tom's corner about these errors as well. Correct tags will be shown in the revision of the 56-7 JM. Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter
