    steering box play on C3

I have a 70 with power steering. Car is almost completely dis-assembled. Steering column is out. I notice some play in the steering box when I turn the rag joint by hand. I have never driven the car, so I don't know if there is any steering wander or not. Does anyone know how much play is normal? thanks, Steve

The box is close to no play.

Since you have it out, put it in a vise and check the lash through center. You should start out about 5 in/lbs climb to 12 on center and then back down to 5. Don't be surprised to find 2-5 through out the range. You can adjust the box but since it out I would go through it.
      This will help you

Sorry for the confusion Gary. My steering box is still in the car. Is there something I can check to see if it needs adjustment or rebuild? I read the article - thanks. It was very informative and makes me think that is something I should not try to do myself. Steve
