I'm in the process of putting in a stock exhaust system and have already taken off the headers and old system. My question is about the "U" shaped center bracket that attaches to the bottom of the transmission. Which way does it face? Should it be the open end of the "U" face toward the rear of the car? Jim

Re: 69 center exhaust hanger
Yes, the same part was used for 1966 Corvettes with 2" exhaust. All 1969 Corvettes, the subject of this thread, used 2" exhaust. A similar part, but of slightly different configuration, was used for 1966 with 2-1/2" exhaust. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 center exhaust hanger
Another member recently pointed out that the AIM drawing was changed to add the hanger after the start of 1966 model year production. I find it hard to believe that any mid year Corvettes were made without a center exhaust hanger. Comments?https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: 69 center exhaust hanger
1963 and possibly early 1964 used a different style clamp set-up. However, most 1964 thru 74 used the "ox bow" style brackets, 65-67 and 69 side exhaust excepted. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 center exhaust hanger
That's incorrect - the oxbow hanger (called a "clamp") has been in UPC 8 in the Assembly Manual since 1964, when it was introduced. The only item "added" to the 1966 A.I.M (UPC 8, sheet A2, item #14) after the sheet was issued was a note about reference clearance dimensions.- Top
