Re: 71 Charcoal Cannister Part #
Jeff-----
GM #17063011 is NOT the originally installed vacuum canister for your car. It's a replacement that occurred after 1983. The original canister for your application was GM #7028129. It was discontinued from SERVICE in August, 1971 and several other supercessive part numbers were used before they got to the 17063011..
The GM #17056582 is another replacement for your application, so that part will SERVICE your application just fine.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 71 Charcoal Cannister Part #
GM #7028131 was originally used for some non-Chevrolet 1971 GM applications. As far as Chevrolet goes, it was used for all 1974 with 8 cylinder engines and some limited use during 1975-77. As far as Corvettes go, it's the canister used in PRODUCTION for all 1974-77 models. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 71 Charcoal Cannister Part #
The one on my 71 has the numbers 7030541 and 125 on it. No idea if it is original, but it has been on the car long enough that it had paint overspray from previous repaint which probably occurred 20 or more years ago.- Top

Re: 71 Charcoal Cannister Part #
If it's a very late 71 I could see where the 7030541 might have been the originally installed canister. Otherwise, it's a replacement that occurred sometime after August, 1971 when the 7028129 was replaced, for SERVICE, by the 7030541.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 71 Charcoal Cannister Part #
I would say that June, 1971 would be late enough to have received the 7030541. I expect the "125" is a date code but I don't know how to interpret it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
