    Paul,

Per the owner's manual, the OEM plug was an R-43. The owner's manual also says that for city driving use an R-44. There was a pretty good discussion around mid-April concerning spark plugs for a '70 LT1. It was titled "Spark plug advice for my '70 LT1".

Concerning the rings, I believe that 4 equal rings were standard on plugs for 1970, but there are a bunch of guys here that know worlds more that I and I'm sure that they will advise.

Four equal rings is correct. Would not use a 43 heat range due to early fouling. A few guys in the Driveline advertise vintage plugs for sale with the correct four thin/equal green rings. Also available on E-bay.

        Paul,
43N would be a Big Block. The actual period correct AC plug for your 70 LT-1 would be an R-43 with 4 equal rings and ACNITER in green on the shaft. They are very scarce and be ready to compete with the Z-28 folks when you find them. I looked for a long time and finally found a set a few years ago. The date on the box that I have is 1970. 43 heat range is a bit cold for the street so if you find a set you may want to put them on the shelf.

Unless you're really pounding on it all the time, the AC R45 or equivalent in any other brand is best for normal road driving.

Last I checked, you can't get a plain R44 from ACDelco anymore.....they're either 43's or 45's, which I agree work great.
