    Rebuild engine

What will it take to rebuild the present 300Hp engine to a 350Hp engine?

Will it be possible to bring it back to 300Hp if nessesary?

Just like to have an extra 50Hp

Bo, begin with head work. You can get good gains with head work and it will never show from the the outside. There have been alot of threads on head work that will be valuable to you.

Why would you want to change it back?

If you mean to THE 350 hp status(as in the original 350 configuration), the valve train is changed from hydraulic to solid; the carb is different;I think the intake manifold is different; the distributor is different...and the list goes on. However, if you just want to get an extra 50 HP, you have a multitude of choices, and 50 hp is, by NO MEANS, the upper limit...Joe

The L-79 did not have mechanical lifters.

The secret to horsepower is head flow. If you massage the OE heads, retard the OE cam four degrees, and do nothing else it will make about as much top end power as a Flint-built L-79 with a lot more low end torque, and it will look absolutely original and idle butter smooth at 500 like a 327/300 should.

              Gentlemen

              Thank you on all advise.
Where can I get this done in the Houiston area.
              Any suggestions.

                  Bo,

If you are speaking of rebuilding it as it was back in 65 ,the answer is no . The 350 Hp had "at least" ,a different cam and larger head valves, and a different intake, (aluminum). So while you could replace the intake again with the 300 Cast iron one ,the cam and Valve changes would remain .

If you just want more horse power then Duke's advice is the way to go .
