    69 rocker panels

    I'm having my car painted in it's original color, tuxedo black. The outside rocker panels on a 69 are black with a little chome trim at the top. I'm wondering if I should have the rocker panels repainted as well? If so, are they supposed to be a shiney black like the body of the car or sort of a semi gloss?

    The 68-69 rocker moldings are a 2 piece arrangement. The upper molding is clear anodized aluminum. The top portion of it is bare, clear-anodized aluminum; the lower portion is painted a semi-flat black. The lower molding is a fiberglass panel. It is painted a semi-flat black.

    All 1969s, except side exhaust of course, used the same molding regardless of body color of the car.

      Thanks Joe. Sounds like from what you say that I shouldn't have the panels painted tuxedo black like the rest of the car but should either clean them up or have the paint guy use a semi flat or maybe a satin paint on those two pieces.

        Hey Jim -

        I just restored my rocker panels on my '69 L36. I asked around and found John Deer's Blitz Black to be one of the favorites for properly matching the original flat black on the rocker panels.

        I purchased mine on-line from this place;

        One can should do the trick.

        Good luck!

          Yes, John Deere Blitz Black is just about the right sheen level for these rocker panels. In general, and contrary to the opinion of many, I don't think that Blitz Black mimics the gloss level for very many Corvette chassis parts. However, it is about right for these rocker panels.
