    C1 and C2 Ballast Resistors

I wish to use the later version of the C1 and C2 ballast resistor in my car with a points type ignition system. The one rated at 1.8 ohms. They are still available. I bought 2 today. However, both of them measure 2.4 ohms at room temperature. Would a 2.4 ohm one work acceptably? Is the delta between 1.8 and 2.4 ohms something with which I need to be concerned?

P.S. One of these resistors is made in the US! A BWD RU4. Floored me when I read the box and saw "MADE IN THE USA". When's the last time you saw that?

    Christopher -

Shouldn't be an issue - the resistors I've been using for several years check at 2.1-2.3 ohms at room temp, and they work just fine.

IF your looking for the real deal original first "design" this is what it should look like.

roy's picture is correct for at least the 56 and 57's. note the lack of a notch in the porcelain on the sides beneath the screws. mike

Which one is correct for a 62, 250hp-327? Notch or no notch?

Re: C1 and C2 Ballast Resistors

My recollection, based on 'harvesting' ballast resistors, is the ceramic change (trough from the center to the screw terminals vs. trough all the way through to the outer ends) came along in roughly the '58 model year...
