Re: C1 gas cap WOW $$$
I think that a lot of us are missing the true point here. There has been a number of gas cap thefts recently. This past winter I was an OJ on the C-4's and one of the candidates for a Flight Award told us his gas cap had been stolen while his corvette was waiting to be judge. He felt that it was stolen in the overnight hours, but no proof. At first we discounted his comments because he had an answer for almost everything. He was a brand new NCRS member , as we all were and his first meet. The Judges were great with him and explaining that just because you bought a part at a GM Dealer does not make it correct. At first I thought this gas cap thing was just another story. Now I would like to apologize to that member because it came to light that a gas cap was stolen from a mid year also at Kissimmee. I have no proof of that. Then I heard other stories that gas caps seem to be a favorite target of thieves. I guess I am in agreement with the member who stated that his gas cap goes on for judging and the locking gas cap comes off. I think that this is the position I am going to take. This might seem like a small item but it deserves some thought.PAT, Central New Jersey and Florida Chapters- Top

Re: C1 gas cap WOW $$$
Just to chime in, an original spare tire lock with the key was stolen at Bloomington this year a Judge told me. Terrible. With the prices of original parts on C1's and C2's, we can't be expected to buy spares in case some *&&*^*&^*)_ steals my original. I might just sleep in my car at Kissimmee. That way I can "introduce" myself to any would be thief. ARA- Top

I think many people don't realize the parts that are stolen are stolen by Corvette ownersand we don't like to mention THAT!
People that come to CAR shows and see Corvettes are not mostly Corvette people or crooks. The a**s holes or crooks are Corvette people! that know the value of a part , isn't it sad to realize you cant trust some Corvette members around your Corvette. I rarely worry at a local car show
but watch my Corvette closely when at a Corvette meet.
I remove my gas cap, cig.lighter, and many little items that can be easily removed when I'm not near my Corvette.- Top

I THRILLS me that you made that observation/comment!!!!!
Over the years, I've made comments about Corvette people, and subsequently my comments/observations are blown off, ignored, minimized, rationalized and I'm regarded as a disgruntled person.
You're right, (some) Corvette people just DO NOT like to accept/admit to some things about themselves. And the more inclined they are to being of the purist variety, the worse they are. Oh well-------------------- Top

Re: C1 gas cap WOW $$$
Spot on Ian 95% off theft comes from inside (employees). Caught many, many over the years and have taken security courses to better equip myself for massive stock losses. Hidden cameras catch them out every time.
I caught a kid red handed once and sat him down. I told him I know how much you have taken so If you don't come up with the correct figure your with the police. I left him with a pen and paper for half an hour to come up with the full amount. Thinking he has knocked off about 2k worth of parts and money. I returned he had a list of a bit over 20k of stolen product and all the names of the people who were part of the ringI sacked the entire staff and felt sick for months about how all these people I trusted were ripping me blind. After that it was cameras, cameras and more cameras.
So it doesn't surprise me that a gas cap could go missing at a car show.
The last car show I went to I accidently left my wallet on the passenger seat of my C1 with the roof off. I had 1k in it of cash and only realized 5 hours later. I was never near the car for that 5 hours and ran back to find it still sitting there. I couldn't believe it hadn't been taken !! Stewy- Top

It's hard not to lick your fingers when your dealing with honey !!
Many years ago I was restoring a 65 Pony and had a set of new chrome over riders on the shed floor. A very good mate came around and had a good look at my resto. He had just finished his and had it on the road. I always noticed he never had over riders under his bumpers. 2 weeks later his car had over riders and mine were missingWhat do you say or think !! Re: C1 gas cap WOW $$$
Ian the same A-Hole got his bad karma back. A month after he got his new ride on the road he thought he would go to the National Mustang Concourse. He was cueing up out the front with the roof down looking like a smarty pants when he thought he was getting rather burnt from the sun, so he reached in to his glove compartment and while reaching over his foot slipped of the brake pedal and it hit the gas full steam. There was a guy on a BMW motor bike in front of him. He knocked the biker off his bike drove over the BMW and it got stuck under the car. His front end was stuffed and radiator spewing coolant everywhere. The hood was all buckled up and after we knew the biker was ok about 20 of us started clapping and telling him what an idiot he is. Loved every bit except the poor biker lost his bike ? Stewy- Top
