'67 spare tire tub stamp date...

In the beginning of January '67 +/-, the factory started stamping the date of manufacture of the tub with a rubber stamp and white ink inside the tub. I remember seeing a picture of it, of course I can't find it now. My question is does anyone here have a picture of a that white ink stamp they could post here and what was the style of the Font, the height of the letter and numeral's? Thanks, PT

Patrick - I'm sure there was something within the last year on the DB.

Also, please double check your information on when the date info stamping started because my September 1966 build 1967 has a JUN 16 1966 stamping inside the tire tub and my interpretation is that it's considerably before 67+/-.

Re: '67 spare tire tub stamp date...

Thanks guys. I'm having the stamp made up tomorrow. Here is what I came up with regards to the stamp font size:

        JUN 16 1967

The date will be white of course. Does this look reasonable? What do you think of the build date? It's about three weeks ahead of the car build date, which is L06 (July 6th) and NOT a Saturday or Sunday. Any opinions? PT

The original stamp appears to have been one of those where the date could be changed daily by rotating the rubber print band. These were commonly used to date office papers etc. If you go to an office supply house you may get a good idea of font size and type style. They don't sell "1967" anymore so you'll need a custom stamp. This same style stamp was used on doorpanels and possibly other applications requiring a date.

            Stephen,
I agree that an office style date stamp was used in other areas, such as as the back of a dash cluster.

Wasn't this found only on the top one of a stack of tubs? Therefore not all cars had it?

Brian, it looks like somone elses.
The original machine used, had type fonts that were a roman style, 1/4" high.
The pic is a gothic san serif style, spacing is non-typical, there is no comma after the day and it is a bit neater than original.
                Perhaps someone can post.
As Steve states the stamps were the type that companies used back in the day to date the receipt of incoming correspondence, among other things.

Mike, I'm going to get a single stamp that will be used once. I cannot find a gothic san seriff style anywhere, even doing a google search. Some places even want you to pay! I'm just going to go with I got above, spent enough time on this already. Thanks, PT

                        PT,

That date in June might be too late. You might want to confirm with some others near your build date.

I don't have a picture of mine for a June 29, 67 car, but the date I wrote down in my judging guide was Mar, 1967 with no day.

I'll check this over the weekend and get a picture, maybe I wrote down Mar instead of May without the day.

Maybe there are others with a close build date.

Patrick, I have restored 40+ tubs. Date stamps have been found on less than 10% of the tubs. Some lids have dates. Mike's description of the stamp characters is accurate. The paint application is very sloppy and hard to read in many cases. I hope this helps.

I have not done 40 cars but at least 20 and only one or two had this stamp. So I agree with Scott's findings. I feel if there was no stamp it would be correct not to add it. Just because the NCRS guide says it should be there is no reason to add one.

My 67 has a stamp on the tub and the lid. Both are very smeared with bloobs of paint from the stamp around the date from stamping. I took pictures a few years ago when I was washing it with soap and water but can not remember or read the dates from the pictures. Can someone tell me how to blow up my pictures on "My Pictures" ? Or another way? Thank you Dale
