Being the owner of an unrestored '62, I am a big fan of originality as yo might guess. As they say, it is only original once. That means something to me. If it does to you, then buy the car. Who really knows what originality adds to the sale price, depends on who is buying. Keep in mind that most everything on the car may be 47 years old, and the more you drive it, the more of these parts will probably have to be replaced.

If I had the chance, I'd buy it and replace the stuff that is obvioulsy not original with replacement parts as close to original as you can get, and enjoy it.

Looks like it may have had a repaint or at least some touch up. White overspray in places I would not expect to see it on an original. Still a nice car.

People sometimes throw numbers around for value and they really don't have any interest or stake in the car. I see it as a personal thing. If you really want the car, you might need to go a bit higher than what people may say. After all, it's really the buyer who determines the value of a car. Interesting topic to follow, more pictures and info please!

Cecil, you are correct a bit. Discussions with the owner she stated that over the years the car starting losing the paint as it currently is on the back and she used a spray can to touch up some places years ago. Hence the slight over spray in the engine compartment. Could you imagine using a spray can to do that today? Not me that's for sure. I would think a bit of elbow grease and you could remove all the over spray and it look as old and used looking as it's supposed to. It's a nice old relatively untouched car that might look nice in my garage along with my 64. If not it will be sold to another Corvette fan.

            Cheers,
            Craig

                Follow up

                Hi all,

I went over to see the car again tonight and met with the owner. She is someone I have known for sometime now and never put the two together. Anyway she states her father was the original buyer in 62 from a local dealership here in town and he ended up giving her the car to take to college. UNC no doubt..Go Heels... Anyway her local mechanic friend came over the see if he could start the car and take home to his shop to ready it for selling. At this point I do not know a price. Well I figured the last time it was inspected was 2005 and hasn't been registered since then as well that there was no way it would start right away. We hooked up a jump box to it and a few turns of the starter and she started right up. Not running perfect but good enough for the mechanic to drive home. You could actually drive it anywhere you want to go. Amazing. More to come when available.

                Cheers,
                Craig

I'm guessing that exhaust is not original--with the amount of pitting the door post chrome has, that implies that the original carbon steel pipes would be plenty rusty--not shiny and black. I have some NOS ones in my possession that have never been wet, and they are somewhat rusty from just being around for many years. Too bad the front license assy is missing--repro bolts for those have the wrong head markings on them.

That's my kind of car. I have always been more interested in unrestored cars anyway and the 62 is my favorite of the solid axle cars. The year I graduated from HS (1961), a friend got a new 62 for a delayed graduation present. It was white with red interior, 340hp and we drove that car all over South Texas and to the AHRA Nats in Ft.Worth, just before I went in the military. I have some great memories of that car. I later bought a red/red 62 250hp 3 speed car with hardtop only, much like this one, and ended up selling it in Northern Ca. in 83. Wish I still had it.
