Add some drama to your visit. While your there check out lot 645, a blue 69 roadster 435 horse. Some guys on another forum are saying it's a restamp and the engine cast date is ground off.

      Jeff,

Lot 635 is a Plymouth. I think you meant Lot 645.

If I can find the car I will check it out and take some pictures. I will report back when I get home.

GM will try to sell a number of heritage vehicles, per the local TV coverage today.

Breaking News: Government Halts Barrett-Jackson Sale of GM Cars

West Palm Beach, Florida: Midway through Friday's collector car sale, representatives of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) forced Barrett-Jackson to stop the sale of certain cars from the GM Heritage Fleet. Our sources tell us that this order from NHTSA was completely unexpected; Barrett-Jackson and GM have been extremely careful to note, in written material posted on the cars, which GM cars are sold on "salvage titles" or similar, and cannot be registered. Apparently, despite this, NHTSA is concerned that someone "might try" to register the cars for the street.

GM and Barrett-Jackson are attempting to resolve this so that the cars, which have been heavily publicized and have drawn bidders from across the nation, can be sold. Unfortunately, discussions are hampered by the fact that the relevant NHTSA offices are closed for the day, and reportedly will be closed tomorrow as well.

Talked to a friend at the auction and his information is that the GM Heritage folks have withdrawn their cars from the auction. The rumor, according to him, is the soft sale numbers caused them to withdraw. Understand this is the talk/rumor from people attending the auction. From what I have seen, it appears that the sale prices are soft.

Well, the heritage cars sold, but not at very premium prices. Have to say I didn't like the SPEED coverage as they got to treating it like a family event, i.e. something for everyone with a lot of (uck!) human interest thrown in. I prefer to see the cars and not the hype and frills. The Mecom coverage on the Discovery HD channel is much better except the color commentators don't know their cars as well. The floor men on SPEED are real car nuts and know their stuff - pretty well , specially the Vettes and muscle cars.
