I Like To Know If The Trumpet On The Horn Is Plastic Or Metal.the One I Took Off My Car Was Plastic.the Plastic Horns Look Shorter Than The Metal. My Car Was Built In Oct. 1971 Which One Should I Have. Thanks Bill

Bill, the horn itself is metal, with female threads to accept the black plastic trumpet. Hope this helps!

I've seen numerous alarm horns, but none of the ones I've seen have had metal trumpets. Mine is an August '71 build, and it definitely has a plastic trumpet. Looking forward to others ringing in on this, as it's now a mystery to me.

I just went on ebay. One describes it as a metal horn--he doesn't make any claim about the trumpet--the other doesn't even know if it's a Corvette horn or not. Did I miss something?

Bill, please share ebay item #(s) so I can be sure that I'm looking @ the same horn(s) as you are. I saw ebay item # 200317155002, and it says "metal", but as Mike points out, that doesn't mean that the whole horn is. The head should be metal, and (I think) the trumpet plastic.

Does this horn look right for a '72? been a while since I had mine down, but the mounting bracket doesn't seem right, and the trumpet, at least from the angle in the photo, looks longer than I'd expect. Might be worth a "Q" or 2 to the buyer?

The original alarm horns on 1968-1972 Corvettes have a plastic screw-in trumpet. I have seen all metal horns with a long straight trumpet -- I believe they serve some function on Buicks or Cadillacs. The service replacement alarm horn has a snail shape, like the regular Corvette horn(s) and produces a different sound than the straight plastic trumpet alarm horn.

Terry/Bill - the horn I see on ebay looks to be the Caddy/Buick one as you described. Ad says Corvette, however, I think the trumpet looks to be too long and the mounting bracket doesn't look like it would attach to the fender well as a Corvette requires. Buyer beware.
