1960 license plate lamp assembly

My license plate lamp assembly doesn't fit great. Here is a photo they do not fit flush to the end. Have I got a wrong type or is that how they should fit.

That is not how they "should" fit, it is how they "do" fit. Fit was not perfect out of St. Louis.

Have you tries to reverse them , ant the nut area movable

Mine fit like that. In the rear it hung forward like yours and in the front it was a bit forward. One of the welds on the inside was broken so I ground out the other, adjusted it so it fit better and rewelded it. It looks a lot better.

It's not a correct look, the rear part is perfectly flush. Strange !! I have only seen a handful of 58 -60 cars so it's hard to see the correct fit. Like mine they are all s...t heaps and seem to have the overhang.
