Re: North Carolina Previous Owner Search
Well, I've found the previous, previous owner of my 72 LT-1. He bought the car at the Corvette Expo car corral in Knoxville, Tennessee. He kept it for a few years before he sold it at the Moultrie, Georgia swap meet.
Now I'm stumped. Is there a way to get info about cars sold at the Expo?
Does anybody remember seeing a Elkhart Green 72 LT-1 coupe with a/c car there for sale around the 2002-3 time?
Thanks!- Top

North Carolina Previous Owner Search
Bryan:
I have a '65 convertible and knew that one of the previous owners was from North Carolina. I filled out a form from their website (I think it was MVR-605A) and dropped a $ 10.00 bill in the envelope with the completed form. In less than two weeks, I received an envelope with the owner's title which dated back to 1988. Unfortunately, it didn't go further back than that
. However, it did have his name and address on the title which, due to the Privacy Act, has made this type of search nearly impossible in most other states. I know this first hand as I am currently attempting to find the other owners of my car. The DMV's either toss their records after about 10 years, or if they have anything, will send it to you with names and addresses blacked-out. How's that for a tease? When you fill out the form for NC, make sure to select one of the options that allow you to obtain the information that typically isn't provided due to the Privacy Act. Perhaps that is what happened with your first search? Also, after filling out their form, I realized that they had no space to write in the vehicle make, model, and VIN # of all things
! How can they do a title search on a vehicle if they don't know the darn VIN #?? So, I simply wrote the information very clearly on the form - HELLO! Try it again and see if you don't get better results the second time around.
Good luck,

I have found the North Carolina owner via Craigslist. The site had a listing for a Corvette for-sale in the town of Franklin, NC. I thought what the heck, it's a small town, he's Corvette owner, I just might get lucky.
So I emailed the seller hoping he would remember seeing or know something about my 72. I got a reply from his son telling me that his dad used to own my car. His dad bought it at the Corvette Expo in Nashville, Tenn. Even though I have asked, he has not offered up any more info about who he purchased it from.- Top

North Carolina Previous Owner Search
Bryan:
OK, you are getting very lucky and closer by the minute. You now have a name as well as another state to continue the title search. I would fill out the form again for NC as I previously mentioned, and do the same for TN. If you get a copy of the title from NC with the owner (father) that you spoke to from NC, then you might get the name of the previous owner that's written on the title when transferred. If the car was previously in NC and not TN, then you should get the previous title, too. If it was actually titled in TN, then hopefully they (TN-DMV) will have the title from the previous guy. At least you have a clue to another state. I have been contacting DMV's from the east coast looking for information (since I know my car was titled in MD and NC) and I'm working my way west. Only about 40 states to go! Let us know what you find. Marco-Polo... you're getting warmer.
