    North Carolina Previous Owner Search

I hit a dead end with the North Carolina DMV when I inquired for info on my car that has a NC inspection sticker. I was told no records exist even though it has a 2003 inspection date.
But, I was wondering if the numbers on the inspection sticker could tell me anything. Such as, what county, city, town etc.....that might have issued the inspection sticker.
The windshield also has another sticker on it. Does anybody know what the "G" stands for?

The inspection sticker has a place on the back for the inspector to sign and for "station number." You may be able to trace that.

I have never seen a decal just like the G, but I would guess it some kind of parking lot permit for a business, apartment complex, or school.

Thanks Richard, I'll see if I can find it.

Reba, That's what I thought too. I was hoping someone would possibly recognize it as some type of military parking sticker since NC has quite a few of them.

I can't believe you had a problem with NC DMV. They are usually so helpful and friendly...NOT!

It is actually quite unusual that you couldn't find the information in NC. They usually do pretty good. Could be that it was never titled in NC but spent time there, enough to be inspected. This could happen in the case of a dealer, and there would be no record in NC, if it was bought out of state and then sold out of state. I would fill out the forms and try again. Some researchers are better than others.

                  Wayne,
Could be the case. The guy I bought it from, bought it several years back from a guy that brought it down to the Moultry, Georgia swap meet. The previous owner gave me a folder that had the guys name on it. Unfortunately, my wife threw the folder away.

Well, I'm a little closer today. I have tracked the NC inspection sticker station number 35280 to a Paul and Barny's Tire and Service Center located in Franklin, NC. Nobody answered when I gave them a call. It looks like Franklin is a small town, so maybe they might remember a Elkhart Green LT-1.

I have been told that the old records still exist, they do not show up on current searches. Several years ago I researched the history on my first Corvette, a 1961. They gave me the selling dealer, the first owner, the next dealer transfer (me), the next two dealer transfers, and finally the title was cancelled to Florida in 1964. That is where I hit a dead end.

                          Dick,
I supposed I could do as Wayne suggested and fill out the forms to get the info from the NCDOT again. Maybe, the second time around would yield some results.

I made the call again and talked with someone at Paul and Barney's who is going to research their records to see if he can find some info. I'll have to give him a call this afternoon to get the results.

Bryan, my contact there has retired, but I think that the info they give out is for cars currently titled, but not anything for records over 4 or 5 years old.

I cultivated my contact when I used to go to Raleigh every year to purchase about 2,200 license tags. You get to meet a lot of employees when you do that
