Re: Build sheet locations for 1970

Been watching this thread with some interest since I thought the tank sticker was the only build sheet the St Louis factory applied if ever. Is there really potential more build sheets in my 69? I can see the tank sticker through the fuel fill area. I've left it there over the years but now I wonder if I should remove it. I already have a build sheet in the form of an original Car Shipper. What would you guys do?

If you have the car shipper document, you really have everything you need. The other "build sheets" are, basically, the same as it as far as build information goes.

Robert Ricchio in reading your post reference air conditioned convertibles you mention something that is not clear to me in what you posted. From what I know about my 68 convertible and 70 coupe, water that gets into the deck grilles is contained and drains through a rubber tube to its outlet which is just inboard of the top of the rear tires in the body.

The plenum drains are in different locations for coupe or convertible. The coupe drains as you described. The convertible drains to the rear, facing the fuel tank.

            Jim,
Does your 68 convertible have Air Conditioning?
Convertibles without AC should have the vaccum actuated doors and the trough to catch water and empty via the wheel well
My 73 convert has AC and is as described with the deflector attached forward of the deck vent. If you look straight down the vent you can see the gas tank, a partial look at the top of the muffler, and the pavement below the car.
Now my 73 coupe did have the trough and water exited to the wheel well area.

As fast as you can I would drop the tank cover the tank sticker with plastic & tape it down or take it off after you take pictures . The paper is getting very brittle & with weather & wind I would bet that it will not be there long. Why take a chance.

I did just that. Lower the tank, photograph it, gingerly remove the sticker to a safe place, reinstall tank.

Ok, I guess I'll put that on my to-do list for some day. I looked at the AIM for the tank installation. Drop the tank - reinstall, how long do you expect this little project take? From what I could tell from the fuel fill area, the tank sticker is folded over but seems in tact.

Robert R 68's without air did not come with vacuum operated doors as part of the Astro Ventilation. Flaps move with air exiting against them and also serves to deflect water that enters through the rear grills

Joe L. you have enlightened me on my 68 convertible, it is on my lift above the 70 and I was able to view the drain outlet difference. Next time I wash the 68 I will check to see how the water drains, it appears to drain to the top of the mufflers.

Well, let's continue with this. I was always (I'm a Newbie) under the impression that a build sheet on a Corvette was only found on the top of the gas tank. After reading thru these posts, where else should I be looking? It's not on the top of my gas tank of my 74 convertible.
                      THANKS for the HOPE....Marty

Hey folks..by the term "build sheet", I assume you are talking about the tank sticker" right? Or is there yet another document similar to what the other Chevy models had that we call the "build sheet" ? Thanks

Yes Chris, I believe they are one in the same although the term "tank sticker" may not be so appropriate since some have found the build sheet in other locations. Mike

I've never heard of "build sheets" hidden in a Corvette like Chevrolet did with passenger cars. That's why I found this thread interesting, but I've not seen a confirmation that people have found any. My understanding is the only build sheet is the "tank sticker" that's found on the gas tank, and your lucky if you have that.

Many build sheets have been found in locations other than the top of the fuel tank on C3 Corvettes. The fuel tank location was the only one that GM required the factory to install (even though many may not have been so-installed or an incorrect build sheet installed). But, others were often installed, apparently, at the whim of line employees. Behind the dash/above the steering column is the most common location.

The paper I found folded between the dash and steering column reads "Corvette Order Copy" and seems identical to the tank sticker. But I should name it the dash sticker

Probably the car has a second copy in the tank, but I never lowered it.

                                Best regards
