Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
Do a search of oliva fan clutch stamp
I do see the mention of a black stamp in the JG, so that may be what it is.
I did get hit for a point for not having the "CJ"; need to look into this but its low on the list right now.- Top

Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
Note 'Canada' on the patent info. This is a CJ code small block clutch (barely visible etching at top edge). THIS SIDE UP is original -- most have worn away 45 years later.Attached FilesLast edited by Wayne M.; March 5, 2009, 01:43 PM.- Top

Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
If Wayne's photo is of an original stamp then the stamp for sale on EBay is incorrect.
Wayne's stamp is 3 lines high while the stamp for sale is 4 lines high and the spacing between "This Side Up" is wrong.
Maybe there were 2 stamps at Schweitzer.....

Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
Irby -- I think the CJ is supposed to be an ink stamp, but it seems etched on this one. This clutch was completely caked in black grime (which is probably why the THIS SIDE UP survived.- Top

Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
If you have the Restorer CD and do a fan clutch search you will find an article by Fred Oliva titled "63-67 Small Block Fan Clutches". It says "The thermostatic bar on this part contains three or four rows of the words "THIS SIDE UP" stamped in black ink. I could not find which Restorer it was in but maybe someone will know how to find out and post.
If that is the case the one on Ebay would be correct.

Re: Fan Clutch Stamp...
His bi-metalic strip type appears exactly as in the pic I show above. Three lines; the same letters line up (ie: the middle row, the 'T' in the word THIS is direct, in vertical line, with the 'D' in SIDE of the row above and below, etc.
I'm willing to accept there may have been more than one stamp.- Top
