OK I'll give out a trade secret here. The LF bolts were speraticly used on mid 70's to mid 80's small block motors as timing chain cover/oil pan bolts. I have accumulated a few hundred that way in the past. (If you listen closely you can hear the hoods of 70-80 GM cars opening all over the country right now).

I have seen several unrestored Tripower cars and they all had the FP bolts on them. I let the seller know this and he told me that he head never heard of the FP bolts.

I need those two bolts for my car!!! Looks like Im going without them though. Surely it would pay for someone to reproduce those excact bolts. If they can duplicate U.S. Currency surely they can duplicate those bolts, its more profitable !!!! Less jail time too.

Maybe the seller saw the wingnut sell on the E auction site last year for $285. and figured it was worth a shot.

I agree, $750 is a lot to pay for 2 bolts, but I get it. If I needed those 2 bolts, I would be struggling with myself and trying to justify buying them. I have paid rediculous prices for items in the past but now I have them and others are still looking for them. Some of you guys understand but most of you don't. It could almost be considered a disease or addiction. That is why I couldn't just go to NAPA and buy some wheel cylinders. I had to have the originals. And I am not just talking about my Corvette. I was the same way restoring my original fuelie Nomad as well. If your car isn't all that original any more, than I fully understand not paying that much for a pair of bolts or tires or wheel cylinders or whatever. Just my $.02 worth.

I have used John for a couple of odd ball things I "wanted" to purchase. John is fair. It all depends on what temperature your "fever" is reaching. It's not his price, it's what you're willing to pay for it and the level of satisfaction it brings to you with your purchase.

"LF" is the head marking of Lang Fastener, a company that is still in business here in the Detroit area. Finding LF parts (or making new ones) shouldn't be a problem. At $750 a pair, I'm sure Lang would be happy to help....

I'm curious about the "FP" head marking you guys mentioned, could somebody please post a pic of this head?

                  Thanks, Mike

Here are the FP bolts out of my 67/435. I would not buy them for $750, but I would NOT sell them for $1000. either.

Bill, I was offered 500 for mine a couple of years ago. I thought that the guy was crazy. I will not sell them simply because they have been with the car since new.

                          Thanks, Guys

That's not the head marking I was thinking of, but I think I've seen it before. I'll look it up tomorrow.

It'd be pretty easy to to make a few exact duplicates of those parts and there are a LOT of cold headers and thread rollers sitting idle lately. If you could sell these parts for anywhere near $375 each, I'm surprised someone hasn't made a few.

A fellow MAC Chapter member (who will remain anonymous) machined a pair on a lathe. He found a pair of generic FP bolts and cut them down to get the logo. Then machined out the recess in two other bolts that had the correct configuration and pressed in the FP logo. The pair will pass any close inspection. A lot of work but zero dollars.
