    Re: Generator Arm Trivia C1

I have the '57 A.I.M. AND the 1955-1957 Engineering Parts List/Bill of Material for the Flint V-8 plant; the '56-'57 Corvette A.I.M. specifies the 3704884 generator brace, and the Engineering BOM's for Flint V-8 show it as used on ALL 1955 V-8 engines (Corvette, passenger, and truck). If the 0364 brace shows up for '55 Corvette usage in a parts book, it was released for Service as a functional replacement, but was never used in 1955 production.

But was the same (design) may be the replacement had the part number in it as I showed see Danchuk http://www.danchuk.com/05_03_generat...cket.html#1144
which is the same design for car or vett , engine on the right side as I stated is different in DESIGN my bottom pic. that also had the number in it.

Seeeeee... I tried to tell ya but you wanted no part of any of it.

I knew that original number had to be in the 370xxxx range and not your 3760xxx range.
Part numbers got higher as the years went past and there was no such part as a 3760364 in 1955.

What likely happened is that some minor modiication was needed for the new 58 model and the new part, 3760364, was developed. It also serviced all past models that previously used the 3704884.

So, if you have a 3760364 on a 55,56 or 57, it ain't original to the car. In fact, from what I'm learning now, the 3760364 was NEVER factory installed on ANY Corvette, EVER.

Later, I'll give you a list of all the different braces that were used for Corvette from 55 through 62. There were about six different braces used in those eight years.

NO your missing my point , I was and now talking about the design of the brace , not the part number weather it's on the part or not . Let me ask you this ( is the design correct for 55 58 left brace and 58 up right brace ) do you realize that there different in design and if not I give up trying to make you realize that)

There is no such thing as a "design for 55 to 58 Corvette". It's 55 to 57, then the part and number changes for 58.

OK I give up, design means nothing to you!

I have the drawing for the #3704884 - it's 11.2" from the center of the hole at the water pump end to the far end of the slot at the generator end, the slot is 2-1/2" long x .34" wide, and the offset is 1/2".

This weekend I will take a look at 57 #775 and let you know what type brace is on it. Should be interesting. As my memory serves me it has the part # stamped into it facing the firewall but not sure if it is 884 or not. Probably is.

Roy..no reason to get upset...it really gets confusing on big brake wheel cylinders where the part# and the casting # is different.

Corvettes started to be shipped by rail in 1959!

                      Isn't that a surprise.

That's just what I'm talking about and that why it's inportant to know what the part looks like which I do often here. That is all I'm trying to do about this brace thing. I know many here have bought a part using numbers then find later the part is wrong. I'm not upset just trying to help.

Thanks John. I have a friend with a very original 56 chev and I'll ask if the brace has the 3704884 part number stamped in it.

Certainly not conclusive but interesting. Oct 56 engine untouched since 1957.

Generator bracket appears to be 884 style ( stamp hard to read but there ). Black with remnants of engine orange paint.

Notice untouched SR1 generator! Doubt you will ever see another.

Thanks Joe. I'm now convinced that the 3760364 was a 58 and later pass car brace and never used on any Corvette.

The 3704884 would be correct for all 55-57 Corvettes.
