    Refinishing Front Suspension

I need your advice. I am having all the rubber suspension parts on my '65 Coupe replaced this week. The shop wants to refinish the old parts that will be put back on.

The shop owner told me last week that the old parts are pitted as if this car spent a lot of time in the past, near salt water, perhaps because the car now has only 48K miles. He said that the old suspension parts show some pitting. The parts were spray can painted by the previous owner. The shop wants ~$800 to refinish the old parts to original finish. What I need to know is, will sealing over the pitting, making the parts look factory fresh, something that I need to do to get my car ready for Flight judging?

      Clark,
Are You Doing The Control Arms Upper And Lower ,if So, I Think Americas Finest Will Sell You New Ones (in Driveline),if There Rusted Badly I Dont See How They Can Be Fixed ,sandblasting The Rust Away Maybe Taking Away From The Structural Integrity Depending How Bad They Are.

        Edward,

In your opinion, if you know, how does America's Finest control arm sets match up for NCRS judging?

Do you presently have the original ball joints on the car?? If so then lets talk before you remove!!!!

The America's Finest control arm sets including ball joints will only cost a few points. There may be some C2 restorers around who do better on the rivet stuff, but then there is the question of the ball joints - some NOS stuff around on ebay if you watch for awhile. But overall the America Finest appear to be the best bet.

I would refinish the arms by blasting, then filling with a product like evercoat rage or metal glaze. paint gloss black. $800 seems steep for that.
