    Re: 1969 Firewall Blackout details

    Thank you Alan.

I'm also assuming that the steering mechanism, and subsequent finish on the collar, as well as the mechanism for the Wiper Door was likely assembled after the blackout process.

I just need to determine if it was a zinc or natural steel finish on these components. #1 and #2.

Nothing worse than incorrectly painted over parts.

John, I was hoping someone would post a picture of the wiper door limit switch mechanism. I know there are some, because I have seen them posted on this board. Maybe everyone is in Florida, or the cold weather has us northerners in the deep freeze. From memory:

The rod coming through the fiberglass is close to gloss black, just like the rest of the wiper door mechanism in the wiper well.
The screws are indented hex plated silver -- probably zinc
The 90* bracket is natural steel
The bugle shaped adjustable screw is black -- oxide plate I believe.
The jam nut on the adjustable nut is natural steel

          Terry,

Is the wiper well blacked out or does it have over spray from the painting of the car?

          Thanks
          Joe

            John,
I would have told you that back when you first posted, but I had the impression you wanted a photo -- which I don't have. As I said, I know there is one. John Woods made it part of a PowerPoint presentation, and I believe I have seen the photo used in the three-day judging school in Dallas.

The hand written "job" number and VIN number are unrelated. The job number was only used in the assembly plant.

                John,

I'm sorry that I am late with these pictures but I guess better late than never. The picture of the steering mechanism is of a 1968 and yours being a '69 might have a slight variation. I know that others in this thread have given descriptions of finishes but I thought pictures would be better.

                  Thanks Terry!

I'm getting excited. Just recieved my Wiper motor back from Steve Hackel.

The guy does gorgeous work and is very reasonable.

If I can just get through degreasing and painting the frame so I can move forward.
