Is there a difference between an original outside mirror for 72 vs. gm replacement,(head size, shaft size etc.) other than the date,I would like to have the GM mirror dated correctly.

Paragon has the correct narrow head mirror. 65.00 for made in the USA & 12.00 to date it.

Be carefull, Early '72 cars have a Stainless housing while later ones are black. I read that there was a federal mandate about glare producing components had to be changed for calendar year '72. Mine was an origional stainless back, I ordered a replacemnt (black)and my restorer said it was a mistake. I checked it out and found out that there was a mid-run change.

Lynn, are you refering to the inside mirror? The poster asked about the outside mirror. My 72 was built in Dec. of 71 and it has a chrome outside mirror. Wouldn't this be correct for all 72's? My inside mirror has a stainless back. I hope this is what you were refering to.

I brought a new outside mirror from the gm dealer.and was wondering for judging reasons would the mirror pass. Is it the same size as the factory. I know that the date is wrong.I can buy a dated replacement mirror from paragon reproductions .

I beleave the GM replacement head is larger.

Jim I brought the mirror about 3 years ago, I dont have the slip . is there a reason you need the number. thanks Ed.

Measure your mirror or post a picture and we can tell you if it's the right size head or not. Later C3s (before they went to the sport mirrors) had a wider head.

Buying a part at a GM dealer does not guarantee that it's right wrong or indifferent!

Edward, I bought a few replacement mirrors about 20 years ago and still have a couple I have not used yet on my 68 and 70. Mine are still in the GM boxes with part numbers. I have a large mirror and a small mirrored one. I was going to cross check them with what you bought.
