    Another 64 Fuel Door ?

    Hi all,

I have been trying to research this fuel door uncertainty for some time now and have recently discovered several different variations of the crross flags. According to the JG the right flag should have the upper outer most square in black and the lower innner most square in black but according to these truely authentic original fuel door pictures you can clearly see it's the opposite. If you show up at a meet I wonder how many points will be deducted because it doesn't match what the book said? The picture in the JG look's like this one but the description is reveresed.

What are the opinion's of the experts here?

    Thanks,
    Craig W.

    Good Morning, "M"
I believe the verbage is correct AND confusing as stated in locating the position of the appropriate square. It does not need to be this complex.
With the Mid-Year flag having an even number of rows, we keep it simple by simply memorizing one location and just remember "Black Upper Left". (Which then makes the opposite corner the other color, in this case white.)
A person trying to recall which of two of anything is which will almost certainly result in confusion. (I hope I have'nt achieved the same.)

      Hello Mike,

Not sure why you emphasized the "M" but hey there's all types in this world. None the less what is so confusing is why the latest JG says one thing but show's something different. Thus you will always be incorrect based on what the judges use as a reference. Anyways thanks for trying to clear up the confusion.

      Cheers,
      Craig W.

Unfortately Mike it's not stated this way in the judging guide. It says upper outer most square is black and lower inner most is black but the picture shown is totally opposite. That's whay it's so confusing.

        Cheers again,
        Craig

Agreed, what does "Upper Outer" and "Lower Inner" really refer to???
That has me confused as well!
I am a firm believer in the "KISS" philosophy...Therefore...Black Upper Left, period!
Sorry, did not intend to offend, I thought that was your first name.

No worries Mike. Mt first name is Michael but go by Craig. I just wasn't sure why you emphasized the M that's all. Thanks for the help.

Re: Another 64 Fuel Door ?

Craig, my old M F Dobbins book for 63-7 Stingrays shows the 64 gas door emblem with white upper left vrs black upper left. It matches the verbal JG but not the picture or the picture you posted earlier. Can't find my old 64 gas door that I replaced years ago to see what it had for now. We need a verified low mileage 64 guy to chime in here!

                    Craig,

Check out this 66 door, it's been in my basement for 30 years and I had no idea the chrome was this good until I cleaned it. Just the opposite of your flag coloring.
