Interesting comment about the pitting on the underside... I'll watch and see what happens.

      Hi Scott,
I was able to remove the red label on my 71's cap when I re-plated the cap. The adhesive was relatively thick and stayed on the label so I was able to reapply the label with the same 'stick-em'.
The following is not for the faint of heart.... the reproduction label I bought (just in case) is very nice, but has a noticeable, tiny, beveled edge. The surface on my original is very flat. I don't know how typical my original is of other production labels.
      Regards,
      Alan

Hey, Alan....mine just about dropped off without much provocation. I had hoped it would stay attached but the adhesive was almost dried up. That's when I noticed that the cap had only the word SEALED on it like the 1970. The red label is a bit faded and worn on the edges but it's original like the cap so I may just glue it back on. I understand the font is slightly different on the reproductions.

          Hi Scott,
I also can see a very slight difference in the font on the reproduction label. I think the bevel is more of a giveaway because for my eyes I need to have the original and the repro right next to each other to see the difference in the font.

            Alan,

On my two '71's, I have one original fuel filler cap and one reproduction or service replacement (not sure). The red label on the original cap has flat edging, but so does the reproduction label. The difference seems to be in the lettering. Slight difference is size/shape or spacing.

                Hi Warren,
The bevel I noted is TINY. The light has to be on the label in a certain way to see it. But it's there. I only noticed it because I was taking a CLOSE look at the 2 fonts.
Much ado about nothing. Still playing with an old car, and that's good.
                Regards,
                Alan

I Found One For Sale On Driveline, Seller Claimed It Was A 1970 When I Got It It Was A 1971 In The Original Box With A Bill Of Sale From 1975 And The Label So I Carefully Removed The Label Cleaned It Up And It Looks Great. Saved The Original Label. If Anyone Needs One. I Just Put A New Gasket In It.

Greg, expand your search. Check out the Driveline, post an ad on the Corvette Forum, go to NCRS and Corvette events, swap meets, etc. While at a local NCRS regional meet three years ago I was rummaging around in some parts bins under a Corvette parts dealer's table when I found one for my '70. $5 and nice.
