Bob, wouldn't the original standard transmission in a 1961 Corvette be a Borg Warner?

It's a 3 speed. I think the 4 speed was Borg Warner

Bob,
The main case casting number should be 3743368.The number you posted could easily be misread if it's a rough casting or caked with dirt. Also I would expect the date code you posted would be good if it read J 18 0 instead of J 81 0.....could you have transposed the 1 and the 8?
For further verification, your side cover should be 3731911 which is exclusive to Corvette as well as the 3787067 tailshaft housing (extension housing).
