    67 Vent Glass Dating - One Oddball Date in 66

    Here is what I have on my 67 convertible built April 18, 1967:

    WINDSHIELD (2/67)

    SHADED
    SOFT-RAY
    SAFETY L PLATE
    O
    AS1 F XZ X = Feb; Z = 1967
    LAMINATED
    M4

    RIGHT VENT (4/66) LEFT VENT (1/67)
    AS2 = side glass
    SOFT-RAY G = April SOFT-RAY
    SAFETY L PLATE A = 1966 SAFETY L PLATE
    O N = January O
    AS2 F GA Z = 1967 AS2 F NZ
    SOLID TEMPERED SOLID TEMPERED
    M54 M54

    RIGHT SIDE WINDOW (2/67) LEFT SIDE WINDOW (2/67)

    AS2 = side glass
    SOFT-RAY X = February SOFT-RAY
    SAFETY L PLATE Z = 1967 SAFETY L PLATE
    O O
    AS2 F XZ AS2 F XZ
    SOLID TEMPERED SOLID TEMPERED
    M54 M54

    As you can see, everything seems ok except the pass side vent window which is dated APRIL 66. I understand glass was replaced, but the wear on the vent and its seals is identical to the properly dated other vent and windows. Seems weird that a replacement vent would be BACK-DATED to early 1966 doesn't it??? Any thoughts.

    Funny Kirk, I have a passenger side vent dated January 67 for a June 29, 1967 car. All the other glass is within 3 months.

      With my 66 intake manifold and this vent glass, I beginning to think as the year was winding down they just made sure they used all the existing parts they could. It really does look like it is original to the car in every way. I certainly couldn't say if maybe early in the car's life the pass vent got broken (say the first year or so) and maybe that is what came out for a service replacement - but I'm not sure that would make any more sense than the fact that my April build 67 has an April 66 vent window.

        Kirk,

        I think it is pretty well documented that they used intake manifolds cast in 66, for late 67 base engines. Mine is dated G26 on a June 67 car. Take a look in the archives.

        I would keep your April 66 vent glass. If it were replaced, wouldn't it have a later date than your car, or no date at all.

          One year older is OK for judging

          Kirk,

          For judging, the NCRS allows glass to be one year older than the car, so in terms of judging I think you are fine. The leeway probably means that some cars originally came with glass one year older than the car.

                Kirk and Jerry,
                My 67 with a birthdate of June 19th, has all glass dated June 67 except for the passenger vent glass which has March 67. Something strange with the passenger vent glass is going on.

                  I just went out and looked at the windows in my 67 coupe. the drivers vent has ez- eye, soft ray, safety plate, LOF in a box, AS2 JZ, solid tempered, M54. The side window has the same except, AS2 NZ, at the bottom M54. The passenger side, vent AS2 LZ with the M54 at the bottom. Pass. window AS2 NZ. Dale

                        I even have your article that I will be presenting at my next judging event to try and convince the judges that it is correct.
                        Kirk -

                        That's already covered in the 4th Edition '67 JG, at the top of page 77, in the last sentence of the "Intake Manifold, Base Engine" paragraph; the acceptable time span for the 783 intake was revised based on my survey - you shouldn't have to "convince" any knowledgeable '67 judge.

                          Manufacturer's style codes for the glass - see page 56 in the JG for details.

                            That I must have read and forgot, but now I'm armed to defend my manifold. Thanks as always John.

                              Dale,

                              Assuming I can read the book correctly:

                              Driver's Vent - JZ = May 1967
                              Driver's Window - NZ = Jan 1967
                              Pass Vent - LZ = March 1967
                              Pass Window - NZ = Jan 1967

                              AS2 = side glass
                              Soft Ray = tinted

                              Z = 1967 or 1980, but I am assuming all original 67 glass based on other markings.
